Free Pre-Sports Participation Physicals for Student Athletes

A pre-sports participation physical exam and musculoskeletal health screening will be provided, free of charge, by specialists at HSS Florida, the West Palm Beach location of Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York City. HSS is the official hospital for the NY Giants, the NY Mets, the NY Liberty and other professional teams, and is a FIFA-designated Medical Centre of Excellence.

HSS Florida volunteer staff including physicians, physical therapists and certified athletic trainers will take the students’ medical history and ask about previous injuries; check their heart, lungs and vision; and test movement, balance, strength, coordination and flexibility. A free EKG to further check their heart will be available courtesy of Who We Play For, a nonprofit organization.

After the medical exam and testing, HSS Florida health professionals will advise student athletes on any health concerns related to sports participation and provide strategies to stay safe on the field. If no health issues are uncovered, an HSS physician will sign the pre-participation form that will enable the student to play a sport.
