Miles per day about 2.5. Total of about 5 miles.
As the next step in the process of learning to backpack, gaining some experience and confidence through short overnight trips is invaluable. This is an introduction level backpacking event where hikers get the chance to take their gear into the woods and test things out with experienced leaders to help out if needed. Short demos and hands on practice of various outdoor skills are planned in the afternoon for those who are interested.
We will have a short “shake-down” of packs before we leave to confirm everyone has what they will need and answer any questions ahead of the hike to camp.
The hike will begin at 11:00 AM Saturday January 20th and will end as we exit on Sunday the 21st. For all who sign up everyone should expect to arrive at the Boardwalk trailhead by 10:00 am. There is no entry fee into the park.
Both days total miles will be about 5 miles. 2.5 miles per day. You may want to test yourself before coming to a trip like this with a backpack loaded with gear. Hiking with a backpack/ gear is very different than a stroll through a park.
We have had rain recently, so I would expect to encounter water on the trail. Please DO NOT bring any type of waterproof shoe or boot. I realize that sounds backwards, but it is very important for your success and comfort over the course of the hike. A second pair of dry socks and camp shoes of some sort will be essential.
Saturday night will get a bit chilly (into the low 40s). Please pack accordingly and plan your sleeping system as if it was 5-10 degrees lower. It may feel that way to some new campers.
We usually find a restaurant to eat at after the trip on Sunday. I will come up with some options but feel free to put some options on the table.
Notes**
Small game hunting is still going on this weekend so it is a good idea to wear bright clothing.
There is NO water drop for this location. You will need to filter water.

If you have any questions please let me know.
