*** Time change***
Based on requests and the morning weather report, the hike has been rescheduled to start in the afternoon. We will meet at 1:30pm and leave by 2:00pm. Same return time on Sunday.
Beginners overnight staying at Hidden Lake Campsite
This beginner’s backpacking event is an opportunity to have a relatively short hike and gain some experience and confidence on the trail. The hiking portion of the trip is kept short to make it easier to focus on enjoying the hike and get comfortable with carrying a pack.
We will meet at Lainhart Cabin (17800 Taylor Rd. Jupiter, FL 33478) at 1:30pm and Leave by approximately 2:0pm.
**we have been granted permission to park on this private lot for the duration of the day hike. This will make our hike shorter and allot for more time at the campsite.*
The hike is approximately 3.5 miles each way over a variety of terrain. A good bit of the trail is open to the sky, so both rain protection and sun protection is recommended. Trekking poles are always a good idea. Bug protection is highly encouraged.
You will need to bring a tent to sleep in (Hammocks are possible in the surrounding area but not likely near the site). We can help with setting up if you are new to backpacking. You will need food/water for Saturday and Sunday morning.
There is a lake nearby for water but it obviously must be filtered so you need to bring or borrow a filter.
We are expecting rain in the area on Friday, so the trail will likely be wet in places. And there will likely be some light rain through the afternoon. Pack and dress accordingly.
This is a fairly new campsite and has a fire ring. However, we may or may not have a fire depending on conditions. There is a covered pavilion with picnic tables to utilise if necessary to cook and eat.
As well we may have some backpacking skills activities, based on the groups interest.
We will have a 3.5 mile hike out on Sunday back to our cars. As the hike is short and no particular hurry to get out, departure will likely be between 9-9:30am. So if you want to plan to cook a trail breakfast, feel free. Or you can have a cup of coffee and join us for an early lunch at a local restaurant.
There is NO water drop for this location. You will need to filter water.
