Our amazing trail maintenance volunteers recently installed benches at Bowman Island and on the OTLHT where the trail turns to go to Bowman Island. This is a popular resting spot when hiking the OTLHT. This is a great addition to the trail through Corbett.
To celebrate the new benches and National Trails Day, let’s take a hike to the new benches. Corbett is dry right now but that could change if we get a lot of rain in the next couple of weeks.
The hike will be approximately 12 miles round trip. With the heat this can be a strenuous hike. If you are not used to hiking 12 miles in the heat, this hike is Not for you.
We will take a break at the benches and enjoy the luxury of the benches built and installed by our chapter volunteers.
You must have at least 64 fluid ounces of water and/or sports drink with you. A snack, sunscreen, bug spray and a hat is a good idea to also have with you.
We will meet at the Hungryland boardwalk to start our hike on the blue trail. Be ready to hike by 7:15.
When you enter Corbett at the south entrance, drive west on grade road about a mile and you will see the youth camp on the right. Make that right turn. Watch for the left turn right before entering the youth camp parking lot.
There is a day use fee drop box when you enter Corbett by the weigh station cabin.
