Monthly Chapter Meeting – Okeeheelee Park Nature Center

October 7, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Join us for our last evening Chapter meeting at the Okeeheelee Nature Center.

We meet at 6p.m. This month is our cookie exchange. Bring a few cookies to share. At 6:30 the meeting will start and end at 7:30.

Our presentation is “Ethnobotany: Floridas first people and plants – and Mastodons!” Ron illustrates the relationship of Floridas first people, of over 12,000 years ago, and their use of plants which continues to modern times. Believe in or not, Mastodons consumption of wild plants helped contribute to plant domestication by Florida people. Ron’s presentation also highlights and identifies examples of Palm Beach County’s local native plants with Ethnobotany importance to people.
Our presenter, Ron Seifer earned a Ph.D. In Psychology, and is recently retired. He has always been nature connected, promoting health benefits in nature experiences in his psychology practice. He volunteers at Green Cay and leads Boardwalk Ethnobotany and green space nature connection wellness talks and tours.
I will have an updated list in comments of what is needed for the resident animals.
