There are a few areas on the FNST(FLorida National Scenic Trail) that allows bikes. We will be biking this section. This trail is also the LOST(Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail). We will be riding bikes around the Big O, Lake Okeechobee.
We have a volunteer from Fisheating creek chapter that will carry our gear, a backpack or tub weighing up to 40 lbs. You can choose to carry your own gear but this option is available.
Day 1) We will start with a pre night at the Okeechobee KOA campground. We will leave our vehicles securely parked here. If you have a spouse or friend that wants to stay, camp and do day hikes on the trail that is a possibility.
Day 2) We will start early and ride 39 miles to Alvin Ward Park in Morehaven. We will primitive camp just outside the park on Lake Okeechobee.
Day 3) We will ride 46 miles to the Pahokee campground.
Day 4 We will ride 37 miles back to Okeechobee KOA.
You do have the option to spend one last night at the Okeechobee KOA.
There is plenty of places to stop along the trail for food or you can bring all your food with you.
You are not confirmed on this event until you call or email me. I will give you the codes to call for your discount at the KOA or I can help make the reservation for you. There are several options at the KOA. You can find these options on their website.
Pahokee campground is tent camping unless someone you know brings their RV.
Although we will be leisurely riding our bikes at 10-12 miles an hour, I am listing the event as strenuous.
Helmets are required and you must bring a spare inter tube. I might have a bike safety/repair class at REI if people are interested. Most of the trail is paved but some parts are still gravel.
