HICKORY HAMMOCK WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA – 9 MILES

FAST PACED – MODERATE

This is a new spot for me…..it is the Florida Trail section just below Micco Bluff. It is 4000 acres with Oak and Palm Hammocks that rival Micco Bluff and Starvation Slough in beauty. Wildlife seen on the area include white tailed deer, feral hogs, gopher tortoises and swallow-tailed kites. The entrance is off US 98 NORTH.
Put HICKORY HAMMOCK WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA, 4900 MCARTHUR RD, Basinger, Fl into google maps and it should take you right there.
I don’t expect it to be wet but always be prepared for that. I will scout the area the week before the hike. Tropical Trekkers will maintain the trail and refresh the blazes the weekend before (if this doesn’t happen, I will probably cancel as I hear the trail is in rough shape with many blazes missing).
Please be prepared for HOT weather. You must have a minimum of 2 liters of water or you will not be allowed to hike with us. Also a hat, bug repellant, sunscreen and a snack/lunch are suggested.
