Hike the Bluefield Preserve – 10 plus miles

February 1 @ 8:30 am - 1:00 pm

FAST PACED – MODERATE DIFFICULTY
This was the very first hike I led as an FTA activity leader in Feb 2021. I’m feeling nostalgic so join me as we hike out to the primitive camp site and then the blue trail. There is some good sun exposure, so be prepared! I recommend at least four 16 oz bottles of water, and sun protection. There is a stretch of sugar sand at the beginning and end of this hike that can be a challenge for those who aren’t used to it.

Please do not sign up if you don’t think you can make that many miles.
This is truly in the middle of nowhere and if you start, you will need to finish the whole hike with the group.

This 3285 acre natural area contains scub, pine flatwoods, prairie hammock, wet flatwoods, wet prairie, dry prairie and depression marsh; quite a variety of habitat!

Put Bluefield Preserve in your GPS (not Bluefield Ranch) and it should take you right to the parking lot. Once you hit Bluefield Road, it is about 3 miles in, then a sharp right (there is a sign pointing to the trailhead), then another mile to the parking lot. I recommend you do this prior to signing up for the hike to see how far the drive is for you!
