This is an introduction to backpacking trip. It is a 3 mile hike in, set up camp, and hike out the next day. A great opportunity for beginners to test out their gear and ask any backpacking questions you have.
**SUMMARY**
EVENT: Introduction to backpacking hike
DATES: Saturday, December 14 thru Sunday, December 15, 2024 (1 night)
START: Saturday, 12/14 – Meet at 1 pm at the boardwalk parking lot in the Dupuis Management Area. There are two gates and a field where you can park. Start hiking at 2:00 pm. On the road, you will pass a sign for the Pier. Keep taking the main road past that for another 5-6 miles.
FINISH: Sunday, 12/15 – finish hiking by 12 noon, or earlier
DISTANCE ON TRAIL: 3 miles in and 3.5 miles out
DAYS ON TRAIL: 2
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Beginner
CAMP LOCATION: Loop 4 primitive campsite.
ACTIVITY LEADERS: Phil Mitchell
WATER: You will need a water filter.
FOOD: Snacks for each day plus 1 dinner and 1 breakfast.
GEAR: Backpack, shelter (tent or hammock), sleeping bag, hiking clothes, camp/sleeping clothes, food, cook stove, toiletries, etc.
DIRECTIONS: Enter Dupuis Management Area at Gate 1 by turning south off of SW Kanner Hwy (Rt. 76), proceed for approximately 7-8 miles on the hardpack road until you see a parking area (past the sign for the pier by 5-6 miles).
