PUBLIC / STRENUOUS (only the distance is strenuous, the trail is a delight!)
***I’M BACK, I’M BACK, I’M BACK!!!!!!!!!!!***
**MY FAVORITE FLORIDA HIKE!!**
This will be a 6 mile in/6 mile out hike on my favorite Florida trail (so far)! You will discover a natural cathedral of ancient oaks and palms along a thin ribbon of public land fronting the Kissimmee River floodplain. You will gape in awe at the sheer size of the live oak trees that make up the ancient forests along this segment of the FLORIDA TRAIL. We are starting the hike at 9 AM to give people time to drive to this very fun hike! PLEASE, IF YOU WILL HAVE TROUBLE HIKING 12 MILES, PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS HIKE….IT SIMPLY ISN’T FAIR TO THE OTHERS.
Though it has been fairly dry this year, be prepared for a little water . We will be scouting the hike on Thursday or Friday and I will try to give you a last minute update of trail conditions!
Be sure to put STARVATION SLOUGH CAMPSITE into your GPS…if you only enter Starvation Slouth it will take you somewhere else. At the very end, GPS will try to take you straight through a fence to a dirt road for another half mile, but at that point if you look to your left you will see another dirt road with a recreation sign for STARVATION SLOUGH. Turn left there and follow to the parking area next to picnic tables/pavilion.
You must bring 2 liters of water (appox four 16oz bottles), a snack or lunch, and a hat. You will not be allowed to hike if you don’t bring enough water!!
