Walk in Pondhawk Natural Area

Sorry we had to change the venue but this location is only a couple miles, if that, from Yamato. The Yamato Scrub NA is currently closed for work being done by a utilities contractor and we can’t say for sure it will be open back in time.

Pondhawk NA is 79 acres that protects pine flatwoods and scrub habitats. Scrub is one of Florida’s most endangered habitats. The area consists of two sandy ridges bisected by a slough that runs diagonally across the site.

A perfectly round lake, now known as Blue Lake, was dug by IBM after purchasing this property, along with another 471 acres in 1966. The City and County purchased the property in 2002.

This hike is just under 3 miles.

If you are not there by 7:20, you are late.
