SUMMARY:Swamp Cabbage Festival - North Meetup
DESCRIPTION:How it all began… was in 1966\, the newly formed LaBelle Jaycees were searching for a project to sponsor that would benefit the entire community. Gary Lucia\, the organization’s first president\, appointed T. E. Hedges and Bernard Rasmussen to study the idea and develop a proposal. Noting the abundance of sabal palms\, or as they are called locally “cabbage trees\,” in the area and remembering their importance to early settlers as both building material and food\, Rasmussen suggested a “Swamp Cabbage Festival.” Hedges added this should be popular with visitors who had heard of the native delicacy – also known as “Hearts of Palm” – but had not tried it. Plenty of other food as well.\n**Check out the Armadillo Races as well**\n**Meet Time:** **8:45 AM**\n**Ride Meeting: 9:05 AM**\n**KSU: 9:15 AM**

SUMMARY:Buckskin Basics
DESCRIPTION:https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/c/7/1/c/600_449390972.jpeg \nBuckskin Basics $40 (must prepay on website at https://mixedblood.info/crafts.htm) includes materials; presented by Grandfather Rick McBride. After learning the basics\, you will know how to design and create a quality piece that will last for years. And buckskin is always a hit as a gift. The tools you need will be provided; after using them\, you will have a better idea of what tools you might want for your own craft box. The tuition fee for this workshop is $40 (must now prepay) and includes materials.

SUMMARY:Exploring Metaphor in Native American Story
DESCRIPTION:**Exploring Metaphor in Native American Story with Grandfather Rick McBride; $20.** \nOften thought of as simple\, even childish allegories\, Native American stories are much more profound than most people realize. Humans learn literally every bit of knowledge we carry through metaphor\, the study of which is becoming a major field of linguistics. Given the enormous differences in common culture and indigenous world and universal understanding\, exposing yourself to these stories can help expand your spiritual maturity and tear down the many boxes imposed by common culture. \nRick McBride is mixedblood Tsalagi (Cherokee) who has walked the Red Road for over 40 years. He was named Cante Lute (Schan-tay Lou-tuh) by the spirits through his sundance chief\, which means Red Heart. He is a sundancer and has been traditionally trained and authorized to lead ceremonies\, such as inipi (purification lodge)\, prayer with the Canunpah (Pipe)\, drum healing and so forth. He has been publicly teaching these ways for over 16 years now and recently completed his 19th Sundance. Workshops and lectures are one way to learn from the wisdom of Indian Country. Ceremony brings this knowledge to life. Combined\, teaching and ceremony render practical guidance to everyday living. And so\, Rick sees his role as that of “translator” of indigenous ways so that mainstream-educated people get the full benefit of these ways. It has taken him years of dedicated interaction with many Elders\, as well as his activities as ceremonial leader to get to this place in his life. \nFor further information\, visit his website: http://www.mixedblood.info
