SUMMARY:Glasstress Boca Raton 2025
DESCRIPTION:Glasstress Boca Raton 2025 is the third iteration of the popular Glasstress exhibitions at the Boca Raton Museum of Art. Glasstress is a project in Murano\, Italy\, at the Berengo studio that brings major international artists\, many of whom have never worked in glass\,  to Venice to collaborate with its glass masters. These experts are challenged to rise to the technical challenges that artists at the forefront of contemporary art present and expand beyond their centuries-old techniques. The project also aims to increase the prestige of glass as fine art and to bring Murano’s ancient traditions into the contemporary world. The result is innovative artworks that are dramatic. \nGlasstress Boca Raton 2025 includes over twenty works by globally celebrated artists. Irish artist Sean Scully\, known for lush abstract paintings\, turned to sculpture as an artist-in-residence at the Berengo studio. His Venice Stack is a monumental tower with hand-made glass squares of vibrant colors measuring nearly eight feet tall. Another colorful installation of multiple glass urns by German artist Thomas Schütte\, whose work is the subject of a current retrospective at New York’s Museum of Modern Art\, will also be included. \nAfro-Cuban MacArthur Fellow Maria Magdalena Compos-Pons’s contribution to the exhibition is a mobile of abstracted butterflies dedicated to the memory of Breonna Taylor. Laure Prouvost\, winner of the prestigious Turner Prize\, represented France in the 2019 Venice Biennale and has since collaborated regularly with the masters in Murano. She will contribute a nature-focused installation to this exhibition. Russian artist Anna Jermolaewa made work at the Berengo studio for her exhibition representing Austria in the 2024 Venice Biennale. \nOther artists to be included in Glasstress Boca Raton 2025 are Chinese artist Ai Wei Wei with a giant chandelier\, British artist Fiona Banner with her life-size glass scaffold\, and multiple works by the celebrated British artist Tony Cragg. \nThe exhibition will be accompanied by a catalog. \nKathleen Goncharov\, Senior Curator \n \n\n\n \nBEST West Palm Beach Concert & Event Tickets! \n\n\nWant the Best Price for a West Palm Beach Hotel?\n\nWestPalmBeach.com\nThe Visitor’s Guide to West Palm Beach!

The exhibition will showcase rarely seen historical photographs from the museum’s collection alongside contemporary works by artists Christina Lihan and Abby Laughlin. A free public opening reception with the artists will take place on Thursday\, May 1\, from 6 – 8 p.m.\, at the New River Inn Museum of History building on History Fort Lauderdale’s campus (231 Southwest Second Avenue). \nFlorida-based artist Christina Lihan transforms delicate paper into intricate sculptural landscapes\, hand-cutting\, folding\, scoring and carving architectural forms that play with light and shadow. A former real estate professional with expertise in adaptive rehab\, she brings a passionate\, hands-on perspective to the importance of historic properties in shaping community identity. Laughlin serves on the boards of the Fort Lauderdale History Center and Docomomo US Florida\, and is currently developing three major projects\, including a fine arts book and a photography exhibit on mid-century landmarks. Her work captures both the nostalgia and urgency of preserving South Florida’s architectural heritage. \nHistory Fort Lauderdale\, proud steward of our community’s past by making our heritage accessible and engaging to residents and visitors\, hosts a variety of engaging multicultural experiences\, year-round. It seeks to bring awareness to the community through both traveling exhibits and multiple permanent exhibits including “Women Trailblazers\,” “Fort Lauderdale – the Early Years\,” “Roots of Resilience: The Journey of Black Broward\,” “Fashion & Musical Theatre\,” “From Dugouts to Dream Yachts: the story of boatbuilding along the New River\,” Seminole Arts & Culture\,” “New River Archaeology\,” “Viva Fort Lauderdale: Celebrating Hispanic Art & Culture\,” and “Take PRIDE\, a retrospective on LGBTQ life in South Florida.” \nBeginning May 1\, History Fort Lauderdale will be open five days a week from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. with docent guided tours\, daily\, at 1\, 2 and 3 p.m. (closed Tuesday and Wednesday).

SUMMARY:“Lauderdale Living: The Architecture of Possibilities” Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:History Fort Lauderdale\, in celebration of National Historic Preservation Month\, will present “Lauderdale Living: The Architecture of Possibilities” from Thursday\, May 1 – Sunday\, June 29. With a background in architecture from the University of Virginia and Columbia University\, her work reflects a deep understanding of composition\, technique\, and design. Her meditative\, labor-intensive process creates immersive environments that evoke a sense of place\, often raising subtle questions of environmental justice. Her pieces have been exhibited internationally\, from Shanghai to Tel Aviv\, and she was recently commissioned to create eight large-scale sculptures for a new hotel in central London. \nFort Lauderdale artist and activist Abby Laughlin documents the beauty and history of mid-century modern architecture through photography and curated exhibitions. Group walking tours are available upon special request. Admission is $15 for adults; $12 for seniors and $7 for students (through age 22 with a valid student ID). Admission is free for members\, military and children ages six and under.
