The parking is on the West side of the spanish River Library.\nPondhawk NA is 79 acres that protects pine flatwoods and scrub habitats. Scrub is one of Florida’s most endangered habitats. The area consists of two sandy ridges bisected by a slough that runs diagonally across the site.\nA perfectly round lake\, now known as Blue lake\, was dug by IBM after purchasing this property\, along with another 471 acres in 1966. The city and county purchased the property in 2002. This hike is just under 3 miles. SUMMARY:6 Mile Loop de Loop Dupuis Hike
DESCRIPTION:We will hike loops 1 and 2 (see map) for approximately 6 miles. This is a hot and strenuous hike\, but worth it! There is little to no shade on the trail so a hat and plenty of water is a must! No water\, no hike! So be prepared! \n**NOTE:** This is a **small game hunting area**\, so it’s advised to wear bright clothing! Expect the trail to have overgrown vegetation\, standing water and/or muddy trails. Want to bring along a friend? They will have to register on Meetup and RSVP separately. \nLet’s meet at **7:30 a.m.** at the **Day Use Picnic Area** (formerly known as the Governor’s House) grass parking lot. We will start hiking no later than **7:45 a.m**. Give yourself extra time since the road into the park is a gravel road with ruts and holes that will slow you down. We start on time\, so please don’t be late or you will be hiking by yourself! \n**Public/Strenuous** \n**Items to bring:**\nWater – 2-3 liters\nWalking stick\nNeck fan\nHat\nSnacks\nBug spray\nSunscreen\nExtra pair of shoes (after hike)\nCan do attitude! :) \n**Contact:**\nGloria H. See Map for entrance to Gate 1.** Once you turn into Gate 1\, **do not stop** at the hunters cabin\, just keep going straight on the gravel road approximately 1.5 miles. You will pass the Family Campground on the left. Keep going until you come to a small sign that says “**Day Use Picnic Area**” and turn left. Keep driving until you see the grass parking lot.
