SUMMARY:Jonathan Dickinson Back roads Hike - intro to maintenance
DESCRIPTION:Join Amy for a 6 – 8 mile hike in the backwoods of Jonathan Dickinson State Park – an area that most hikers don’t get to see and explore. This is an introduction to maintenance hike – there will be NO tools and NO work\, just a hike to show the back roads of areas that we travel to and through to get to our maintenance areas. We will also discuss how the average hiker can help and assist the chapter with maintenance. \nThe hike will be on dirt roads\, we will try to move at a brisk pace of at least 3 MPH which is a 20 minute mile. We will have 1 or 2 breaks. It is very dry now\, but be prepared for mud/water just in case. I will try to steer clear of water and mud. \nWe will meet at 8:00 am at Kitching Creek Preserve Parking Lot located at 6125 SE 138th Street in Hobe Sound\, Florida (off of Bridge Road). There are 2 turnoffs from Bridge Road to get to this location\, so if you pass the first one (138th)\, you can be re-routed to the 2nd one (Powerline Road). Bridge road can be dicey\, so please pay attention to your navigator so you can turn off without disrupting traffic. The parking lot is small but we can fit about 8-10 cars. We will then carpool in 2 cars about 1.5 miles to start the hike. Hikers CANNOT leave early\, so if you can’t complete the entire 6-8 miles\, this hike is not for you. \nSince I have to limit attendance\, if you sign up but cannot attend\, PLEASE take yourself off the list at least 48 hours prior to the hike to allow others to attend. \nA weighted back pack is not necessary but wear one if you want to challenge yourself. You need to bring at least 2 liters to drink and a snack or I may turn you away. \nPublic/Moderate \nContact: Amy Saperstein 561-289-5551

SUMMARY:Journey with the Drum
DESCRIPTION:**Journey with the Drum is led by Grandfather Rick McBride\, mixed-blood Cherokee**; the ending time frame is approx\, we may go a little longer. Pre-payment of $25 required: Zelle (preferred) to 954-270-8939 or PayPal https://paypal.me/iwt2016\nAmong the many uses of the drum\, the journey is one of the lesser-known. To journey with the drum is experiential\, but it is not ceremony. Nevertheless\, we still ask for protection\, smudge\, and do the Hollow Bone before starting. Prone or sitting\, (your choice)\, we first quiet the mind. We then sequence into our heart-mind connection. For accomplished meditators\, this will be easy; if you are new to this\, you will learn how this is done and how to strengthen it with practice.\nA single floor drum in the background sets a slow and easy pace to begin your guided meditation journey; a few words are spoken\, loosely guiding you out of the material world\, closer to the veil\, where you will take off on your own. When ready\, you jump into the experience of other dimensions\, go outside of time\, take a journey to the center that encompasses all that is\, to be with the Taku Skan Skan [Dah-koo Shkah Shkah]\, that which is behind all that moves\, but you only go as deep as you choose to. You will be safe at all times\, the drum beat ensures that. The drumbeat accompanies you to let you know you are not alone\, and then to guide you home.\nJourneying is a skill developed simply by showing up and doing it. The benefits are many and varied\, but a realization that there is so much more to us than what we see in the physical\, and that these regions of reality are accessible\, are perhaps the most profound: we become capable of more direct interaction with the Spirits. If you’ve ever wondered how the ancestors were able to communicate with the spirits (of the animals\, of the plants\, of the stone people\, and the Helper Spirits) you will come to understand this as your consciousness shifts. On the day please eat lightly (fruit is recommended) and be well hydrated. The Journey helps develop intuition and quieten the mind. \nRick McBride is mixedblood Tsalagi (Cherokee) who has walked the Red Road for over 35 years. He was named Cante Lute (Schan-tay Lou-tuh) by the spirits through his sundance chief\, which means Red Heart. He is a Sundancer and has been traditionally trained and authorized to lead ceremonies\, such as inipi (purification lodge)\, prayer with the Canunpah (Pipe)\, drum healing\, and so forth. He has been publicly teaching these ways for over 14 years now. Workshops and lectures are one way to learn from the wisdom of Indian Country. Ceremony brings this knowledge to life. Combined\, teaching and ceremony render practical guidance to everyday living. And so\, Rick sees his role as that of “translator” of indigenous ways so that mainstream-educated people get the full benefit of these ways. It has taken him years of dedicated interaction with many Elders\, as well as his activities as ceremonial leader to get to this place in his life. SUMMARY:A Rational Basis for Spiritual Belief
DESCRIPTION:A Rational Basis for Spiritual Belief with Grandfather Rick McBride; this class is taught from the Native American perspective. The idea spiritual belief can also be rational\, according to the definitions\, is determined by choice. And that choice is\, very simply\, what we decide is real and what we decide is not real. Western science is not the only science. Indigenes worldwide have long and accurately understood physical reality\, non-physical reality\, and that which binds them together. So-called western science and its companion religion have carved their respective territories out of the universe\, leaving precious little for any others\, and have informed their devotees of some of the most bizarre notions ever conceived that would otherwise be amusing\, were it not for the violent and destructive history they leave in their wake. Indigenes accept and understand the universe as it is by embracing personal experience. Even when it challenges our idea of normal. To help you jump outside the mainstream box\, we will look not only at the differences between mainstream rationalism and indigenous empiricism\, you will learn: * The differences in language structures (helpful in understanding Native American lifeways\, and ceremony and spiritual wisdom: linear thinking v. circular thinking\, objectification v. relationship.) * How cultural differences affected history and where we are today. * How to develop and evolve your realtionships not only with spirits and the spirit world\, but with other humans\, animals\, trees\, the Earth\, the stars\, even rocks. * How natural cycles are understood and how to come into harmony with them to improve and enrich your life. * What myths about Indian people are true and what are not. * What are the personal benefits to you of understanding how Indian people have been misrepresented in mainstream society. * To accept the possibility that “extra-normal\,” or paranormal experiences are natural and denying them is unnatural\, which creates a false or skewed understanding of life\, death\, and life continuing on into the spirit world. Join us to find out how all this fits together and how becoming aware of these facts and ideas can make your life better. \nRick McBride is mixedblood Tsalagi (Cherokee) who has walked the Red Road for over 35 years. He was named Cante Lute (Schan-tay Lou-tuh) by the spirits through his sundance chief\, which means Red Heart. SUMMARY:Exploring Metaphor in Native American Story
DESCRIPTION:**Exploring Metaphor in Native American Story with Grandfather Rick McBride; $20.** \nOften thought of as simple\, even childish allegories\, Native American stories are much more profound than most people realize. Humans learn literally every bit of knowledge we carry through metaphor\, the study of which is becoming a major field of linguistics. Given the enormous differences in common culture and indigenous world and universal understanding\, exposing yourself to these stories can help expand your spiritual maturity and tear down the many boxes imposed by common culture. \nRick McBride is mixedblood Tsalagi (Cherokee) who has walked the Red Road for over 40 years. He was named Cante Lute (Schan-tay Lou-tuh) by the spirits through his sundance chief\, which means Red Heart. He is a sundancer and has been traditionally trained and authorized to lead ceremonies\, such as inipi (purification lodge)\, prayer with the Canunpah (Pipe)\, drum healing and so forth. He has been publicly teaching these ways for over 16 years now and recently completed his 19th Sundance. You will make a simple project\, such as a medicine bag. The objective of this workshop is to teach you basic stitching techniques and how to design\, make a template\, then cut your pattern from buckskin. The example shown here is a medicine bag. After learning the basics\, you will know how to design and create a quality piece that will last for years. And buckskin is always a hit as a gift. The tools you need will be provided; after using them\, you will have a better idea of what tools you might want for your own craft box. The tuition fee for this workshop is $40 (must now prepay) and includes materials.

SUMMARY:Swamp Cabbage Festival - South Meetup
DESCRIPTION:How it all began… was in 1966\, the newly formed LaBelle Jaycees were searching for a project to sponsor that would benefit the entire community. Gary Lucia\, the organization’s first president\, appointed T. E. Hedges and Bernard Rasmussen to study the idea and develop a proposal. Noting the abundance of sabal palms\, or as they are called locally “cabbage trees\,” in the area and remembering their importance to early settlers as both building material and food\, Rasmussen suggested a “Swamp Cabbage Festival.” Hedges added this should be popular with visitors who had heard of the native delicacy – also known as “Hearts of Palm” – but had not tried it. Plenty of other food as well.\n**Check out the Armadillo Races as well**\n**Meet Time:** **9:30 AM**\n**Ride Meeting: 9:50 AM**\n**KSU: 10:00 AM**

Plenty of other food as well.\n**Check out the Armadillo Races as well**\n**Meet Time:** **8:45 AM**\n**Ride Meeting: 9:05 AM**\n**KSU: 9:15 AM**

SUMMARY:Make a Dreamcatcher
DESCRIPTION:**Make a Dreamcatcher is led by Grandfather Rick McBride $35 includes materials. PREPAYMENT REQUIRED.** Zelle to Cynthia Mong at **954-270-8939 (preferred)** or paypal to: **[https://paypal.me/iwt2016](https://paypal.me/iwt2016)** \nHave you ever wanted to make your own dreamcatcher? For yourself\, and for others: the perfect gift\, one from the heart (and not Amazon.) Today\, you will learn the technique of weaving that web of protection that separates the good dreams from the bad ones. You will learn on a five inch steel hoop using fine sinew. You will then make a second dreamcatcher on a natural vine hoop. If you have beads\, stones\, or feathers and would like to incorporate them into your dreamcatcher\, bring them and you will learn how easy it is; if you do not have anything special you would like to include then all necessary materials are supplied. Once you learn the technique you can apply it to many different shapes and objects. Iktome (Spider) brings us creativity and she links the past\, present\, and future\, which gives us a better perspective from which to understand and make sense out of the web of our own life. Children aged 10 and up are welcome with a parent (1 child per parent). You will also learn the story of the dreamcatcher; what they do and how. \nRick McBride is mixedblood Tsalagi (Cherokee) who has walked the Red Road for 40 years. He has been publicly teaching these ways for over 16 years now.

SUMMARY:Child of the Earth
DESCRIPTION:Child of the Earth class led by Grandfather Rick McBride. Long before the invention of organized religions\, there existed traditions that flourished throughout the “old world\,” or what academics call the physical world\, whether Earth Mother or Gaia\, and direct communication with and experience of those “other-worldly” beings\, variously named the prehistory. These ancient traditions resulted from recognizing the existence of the unseen\, or spirit world\, through the observation of the gods\, spirits\, ancestors\, guides\, or helper beings. In their exuberance to overthrow these “savage\,” or “pagan” ways of life\, the three major world religions of Judaism\, Islam\, and Christianity\, have sought to displace and expunge these natural\, tolerant\, compassionate\, and Earth friendly ways of life\, with devastating effects on the Earth as well. What is it to be “Earth friendly” today; can nonreligious people be “good” people; what is the phenomenological basis for either a heaven or a hell; how have religions influenced languages and how have languages influenced the behavior of nations; do people have direct experience with “spirits” today; and\, most importantly\, what of this survived\, where is it found\, and can it benefit the mainstream now? We will expand this discussion to include the recent mainstream awakening into what it calls “deep ecology\,” and where spiritually aware environmental activism fits in today’s world.\nRick McBride is mixedblood Tsalagi (Cherokee) who has walked the Red Road for over 35 years. He was named Cante Lute (Schan-tay Lou-tuh) by the spirits through his sundance chief\, which means Red Heart. SUMMARY:Understanding Animals as Medicine Helpers class
DESCRIPTION:**Understanding Animals as Medicine Helpers class presented by Grandfather Rick McBride\, mixed-blood Cherokee. Prepayment of $25 required: Zelle to Cynthia Mong at 954-270-8939 (preferred) or Paypal https://paypal.me/iwt2016.**\nGrandfather Rick writes: “There exists a relationship between humans and non-humans\, physically\, intellectually\, emotionally\, and spiritually. Modern humans assume they are superior to non-humans. Indigenes have never assumed this. Western science is just now beginning to understand that non-humans have the same emotions as humans. Sometimes more deeply. They also display the same caring and support as humans inside their own species\, and many times beyond their species and they lack the avarice of humans. \nThis class will acquaint you with ways to understand animal “medicine” without books. As you build on this understanding\, you may find yourself caring more deeply about all animals\, even those you might now find difficult to accept. When this happens\, you will naturally extend your new awareness into all of nature. So\, in a very real sense\, understanding animals more completely and compassionately is a doorway into your deeper connection to the Earth Mother. \nWe’ll expand on the word “medicine\,” you will learn how to apply the medicine of an animal to your own life\, we will touch briefly on differences in language\, direct communication with animals\, and we’ll do a participatory exercise that will help you accept all animals as valuable\, intelligent and sentient beings. And we will have fun doing it. I encourage you to leave your assumptions and expectations at the door\, and to open your mind to a point of view that helped so-called pre-history people thrive for over 20\,000 years.” \n“Thank you\, Grandfather Rick\, for the EXCELLENT presentation that gave me a better understanding of the animal helpers and how to utilize them in my own life.” L.K. WPB \n“Very informative\, interesting and fun! I look forward to attending more classes and workshops. I found Grandfather Rick to be engaging\, accessible\, and down to earth.” C.A. Wellington \nRick McBride is a mixedblood Ani’yunwi’ya (Cherokee) who has practiced the Red Road ceremony for over 38 years. He was named Cante Lute (Schan-tay Lou-tuh) by the spirits through his sundance chief\, which means Red Heart. He is an 18 years sundancer and has been traditionally trained and authorized to lead ceremonies\, such as inipi (purification lodge)\, prayer with the Canunpah (Pipe)\, drum healing\, and so forth.
